Members and roles on a property: how to invite a designer and a contractor and who sees what
To invite someone to a property, open “Profile” → “Property members”, choose a role in the “Invite” block (“Contractor/foreman” or “Designer”), tap “Create code” and then “Share code”. The person gets a link that opens the app and adds them to the property. The owner and the designer can invite, and only after logging in.
Roles on a property
- Owner. Runs the property and invites the others. Changes the route and the survey, sees the budget and expenses, accepts work. The owner deletes the property for all members; on a property without an owner, whoever runs it.
- Designer. Runs the project and the choice of materials, changes the route and the survey, sees the budget, accepts the contractor's work or sends it to the owner. Invites contractors, foremen and other designers. If the designer created the property and there's no owner on it yet, they can also invite the client with the “Owner” role.
- Contractor/foreman. Marks work and attaches photos. Doesn't see the budget or expenses: there's no “Budget” tab for this role. Sees the route but doesn't change it. Tilers, electricians, plumbers, painters and other tradespeople are invited with this same role: there are no separate roles by trade.
On properties where someone was invited earlier, you may come across the “Contractor”, “Inspector” and “Viewer” roles: an inspector reviews and only views, a viewer only views.
How to invite someone
- “Profile” → “Property members”.
- In the “Invite” block, choose a role.
- Tap “Create code”. If you're inviting a contractor or foreman, the app reminds you that they can't see the budget: confirm with “Got it, create code”.
- Tap “Share code” and send the link to the person in any way you like.
The code works once and is valid for a week; the window shows until which date. Below the role choice, the app shows how many more members you can invite on the property's plan.
Before the first invitation, the owner settles one more question, “Materials after renovation”: whether the designer and the contractor keep access to the property in their archive once the renovation is over. The decision can be changed later; more in the article about the archive.
How to join by invitation
- Log in: here's how.
- Open the link from the invitation: the app opens by itself and offers to join. Tap “Join”.
- If you only have a code and no link: “Profile” → “Property members” → “I have a code”, enter the code and tap “Join”.
After you join, the app offers to open this property; your previous one stays on the phone. You can always find the property in the “My properties” list.
How to remove a member
“Profile” → “Property members” → press and hold the member → “Remove from property” → “Remove”. The person loses access, while their marks, photos and comments stay in the property's history. The owner removes members; a designer can remove a contractor or foreman. Nobody can remove the owner.
Reports and blocking
Press and hold someone else's note in the feed or comment on an item → “Report”: choose a reason and add details if you like. To report a member: “Profile” → “Property members” → press and hold the person → “Report”. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours: if there's a violation, the entry is deleted or the member is removed from the property.
In the same place there's “Block”: that person's notes and comments are hidden for you and you won't get notifications about them, while everything stays as it was for the others. To unblock: “Property members” → the “Blocked” button at the very bottom.
What to do if
- “Code didn't work”. Possible reasons: “There's no such invitation” (a typo in the code), “This invitation has already been used” (the code works once), “The invitation has expired, ask for a new code”. Ask for a new code.
- “The code is for the ... role, but your account is ...”. The role in your account doesn't match the role in the invitation: a contractor can't join with a code for a designer. Forward the code to the person it was meant for.
- You can't invite a member because all places are taken. The number of members depends on the property's plan. On a property on the free plan, a member with the “Team” or “Team PRO” plan can join with a code, and the property switches to their plan. More: plans and their limits.
- There's no “Invite” block. You need to log in first. The owner and the designer can invite; in the archive the property is view only, and you can't build a team on it.
- The contractor can't see the budget. That's by design: the budget, expenses, receipts and the total budget are visible only to the owner and the designer. They're closed on the server and never reach the contractor's phone.
