Working offline: what's saved and when it reaches the server
Yes, everything will be saved. The app works offline: item checks, photos, expenses, receipts and tasks are written to the phone and go to the server once there's a connection. You don't need to press anything for that - it's enough for the internet to come back with the app open. What doesn't work offline is whatever the server does: logging in, invitations, a new property, the archive, Master Kistya and property passport recognition.
What you can do offline
- Check off stage items and send checks to the designer or owner for review - they'll go once there's a connection.
- Take photos for items, including hidden work before it's covered.
- Record expenses and scan receipts - the “Budget” tab says so: expenses are “Sent to the server when online”.
- Add and check off tasks.
- Put files into “Documents” - files go to the property storage when you're online, and a copy stays on the phone.
- View everything already loaded onto this phone: stages, photos, documents, the budget.
On a building site this is the most common case: in a basement, on the top floor of a new build or inside a concrete shell there's no internet. Take photos and check items as usual.
When and how data goes to the server
Changes wait on the phone and are sent automatically as soon as there's internet and the app is open. If you took a lot of photos, keep the app open for a few minutes after you're back online - photos are sent one by one.
If some photos didn't go through, the app says “Not all photos have reached the server” and gives the reason:
- “No internet connection. Check it and tap ‘Retry’”;
- “The server isn't responding right now. Try again in a minute”;
- “Your plan is out of space. Free some up or change the plan” - the photos are still saved on the phone and will upload once there's space;
- “The file is no longer on the device. Take or pick it again”.
One file in “Documents” can be up to 25 MB: the app won't accept anything larger.
Why another member doesn't see the changes
For changes to appear for another person, both of you need a connection: your phone to send, theirs to receive. If the contractor checked off work in a basement with no signal and you don't see the check, their phone hasn't been online with the app open yet. Ask them to open the app where there's a signal, and open it yourself.
What doesn't work offline
These actions are done by the server, so the app asks for a connection - usually with the words “No connection - please try again”:
- logging in and the code from the email;
- inviting a member and joining a property with a code;
- a new property - “Adding a property needs a connection”;
- the archive: sending a property to the archive, opening an archived property that isn't on this phone yet;
- moving a property to lived in - it's done on the server right away;
- opening a property that hasn't been loaded onto this phone yet;
- Master Kistya - questions go to the server, and offline the answer is marked “No connection”;
- property passport recognition - the app stops, says that what's recognised is saved, and picks up where it left off next time;
- “Property history” shows what loaded last;
- a report about an entry or a member;
- an idea picture from a link in “Inspiration” appears once you're online.
Offline and not logged in aren't the same
If you keep a property without logging in, it's stored only on this phone and never goes to the server - even when there's a connection. Lose the phone and you lose the renovation. Log in with email so the property is linked to your account: how to log in to the app.
The web version doesn't work offline: it takes the property from the server. At a property with no internet, use the phone app.
If your phone is lost or broken
Everything that has reached the server is kept in your account. Install the app on a new phone and log in with the same email - the app says: “Your renovation is restored from your account - stages, budget, tasks and documents”. Only what didn't get sent from the old phone is lost. So after a day at a property with no signal, don't put off going online: until the changes are sent, their only copy is in one place.
How not to lose photos
- Until photos reach the server, they exist only on the phone. Don't delete the app or clear its data until everything has been sent.
- Get online after a working day at the property and open the app.
- If you got “Not all photos have reached the server”, tap “Retry” once there's a connection.
- Keep an eye on your plan's storage: plans and their limits.
What and how to photograph at the property is in Photo records in the app.
Checklist before a trip to a property with no signal
- You're logged in, and the right property is open and loaded onto the phone.
- The phone has free memory for photos.
- Invitations, new properties and questions to Master Kistya are done in advance, where there's a connection.
- After the property, the app is opened where there's internet, and the photos have reached the server.
