Master Kistya: what to ask the AI renovation assistant
Master Kistya is the renovation assistant inside the Doma app. You can ask him about work, materials, timing, the budget and acceptance, about what to watch for on your property right now, and about where things are in the app. If there's a standard from his base for the question, he'll show where the figure comes from. To open the conversation: Profile → “Master Kistya · renovation assistant”. The conversation needs you to be logged in; stage tips work without logging in.
Two ways to get a hint
Stage tips
On the “Stages” tab, above the route, there's a “Master Kistya” card with a tip for the current or next stage. “All tips for this stage” opens the rest. On the stage screen there's the “Master Kistya advises” block.
The tips are written in advance and checked: there are 54 of them now, in eight topics - wall finishing, plumbing, painting, lighting, tiling, flooring, electrics and building services. For example: mix tiles from several boxes so a shade difference doesn't collect in one patch; photograph the pipework before boxing in; leave access to filters and valves through an access hatch.
Like a tip? Tap the heart next to its title. It goes to “Favorite tips” on Master Kistya's screen, below “Master Kistya's tips”. Tap again to remove it from favorites.
Conversation
You ask your own question in the conversation. Master Kistya answers briefly: the answer first, then the explanation. Under an answer there may be a “Source” line - the document or entry he relied on. You can rate an answer: “Answer helped” or “Answer didn't help”.
What to ask
There is one topic - renovation and everything around it. Examples of questions that work well:
- About your property: “What should I watch for on this property?”, “What's left to check at this stage?”, “How much has been spent?”.
- About work and order: “Is the screed poured before or after plastering?”, “What should be checked before boxing in?”.
- About quality and acceptance: “How do I check walls for unevenness?”, “What are the tolerances for tiles?”, “What should be photographed before plastering?”.
- About materials: “Which filler should I use for paint in a damp room?” - he'll suggest a type by composition for your conditions and name a few common manufacturers; still check the product's purpose on the packaging.
- About the budget: “What makes up the price of plastering?” - figures will be a guideline, not an estimate: an exact price comes from a measurement on site.
- About alterations and contracts: “Can I move the bathroom?”, “What should go into the contract with the crew?”.
- About the app: “How do I add a contractor to the property?”, “Where do I find a receipt?”, “How do I remember a paint color code?”.
With questions that aren't about renovation Master Kistya doesn't help: he'll say in one sentence that it isn't his topic and bring the conversation back to renovation.
What he knows about your property
Master Kistya knows the open property in detail: the survey, stages, comments, tasks, the property passport, and the budget - if your role can see it. He knows your other properties briefly: what's overdue, under review or awaiting approval, and how much is spent.
The conversation belongs to your account: it's one for all your properties and visible on every device where you're logged in. To clear it: Master Kistya's screen → the trash icon at the top right → “Clear”. The conversation is erased on all devices at once and can't be restored.
Where his standards come from
Master Kistya has his own standards base: every entry is checked against the text of the document, the last check was on 22 September 2026. The base contains codes of practice on finishing, floors, plumbing, electrics and residential buildings, as well as the Housing Code articles on alterations. A document that has a new edition whose entries haven't been rechecked yet is excluded from answers.
The main rule: what isn't in the base, Master Kistya doesn't cite. If there's no exact standard, he'll say so, give a practical answer marked as practice, and tell you where to look: the design, the material's data sheet, building management, a specialist. He gives figures - prices, consumption, tolerances, timing - with a note on what they depend on.
What he doesn't do
- He doesn't replace a specialist. Gas, load-bearing structures, the service panel, the roof, the facade - he'll warn about the danger and say it's work for a qualified specialist.
- He doesn't help get around the law, approvals or building rules.
- He doesn't settle a dispute for you. On contracts, warranties and alterations he explains the general rules; a disputed situation is worth discussing with a lawyer.
- He doesn't make things up. No link in the sources - no link; not sure - he'll say he's not sure.
How many questions a day
The number of questions depends on the plan: 25 a day on Free and on “Home Archive”, 50 on “Team”, 100 on “Team PRO”. The conversation screen shows how many are left: “Questions left today”. Stage tips don't count. More in Plans and limits.
How to ask better
- One question, one topic. “What tolerances does a screed under laminate need” is better than five questions at once.
- With conditions. “A bathroom without a window, aerated concrete walls” - and the answer about materials will be more precise.
- Open the right property. Kistya knows the currently open property in detail.
- By voice. You can dictate a question: the microphone on your phone's keyboard works in the question field too.
- A connection is needed. Answers come from the server; without internet the conversation doesn't work, but stage tips stay at hand.
Master Kistya answers in the app's language: Russian, English or Armenian.
