Property and survey: how to create a property and set up your renovation route

Updated 14 October 2026 · based on: Doma app screens and the in-app guide, as of 14 October 2026

A property in Doma is one apartment, house or office with its own renovation route, budget, photos and documents. You create your first property on the welcome screen: choose the property type, your role if asked, and then answer a short survey. The app builds a route of stages and items for your property.

How to create your first property

  1. On the welcome screen, choose the property type: “Apartment”, “House” or “Office”.
  2. For an apartment, choose “New build” or “Resale”: the set of stages depends on it.
  3. If the app asks for your role (“Choose your role”), pick “Owner”, “Designer” or “Contractor/foreman”. The role belongs to your account and sets how the app looks. If you're renovating your own apartment, choose owner.
  4. Answer the project survey questions and tap “Continue”, then “All set”. The home screen opens; the route is on the “Stages” tab.

What the survey does

Your answers decide which stages and items make it into the route. Questions about a particular stage are on that stage's screen, in the “Stage questions” block: set up a stage before the work starts, and unnecessary items won't appear on the list.

The questions about what work will be done (demolition, partitions, air conditioning, screed, tiles, ceilings) are grouped in the “What work will be done” block at the end of the “Planning” survey: by then the apartment has been inspected, and the answers are easier. If you started tracking the renovation in the app after “Planning”, this block is in the start survey. Until the block is confirmed, the stages it can remove are marked “Decided in ‘Planning’”.

To change your answers later, open the “Stages” tab and tap the “Project survey” card. The owner and the designer change and confirm the answers, and the route changes for all members. A contractor or foreman can see the survey but can't edit it, except on a property they created themselves where nobody else runs it.

How to confirm the survey

Answers are a draft: until the survey is confirmed, the route has all stages. The route changes when the owner or the designer confirms the survey.

  1. Answer the questions. Not sure? Choose “Not sure yet” or skip the question: the stage stays in the route. If none of the listed work will be done, choose the “no” answer, for example “None of these”: that's an explicit “no”.
  2. Tap “Confirm survey”. A dialog shows everything that will leave the route, and the stages that stay because they already have work in them.
  3. Tap “Confirm”. For a minute, a bar with a countdown stays at the bottom of the screen: while it's there, you can cancel the confirmation with “Undo”. If you close the app, the confirmation is saved right away.

Stages and items removed by a confirmed survey don't come back, neither with a different answer nor with the “Restore” button. Below the route you can see how many stages the survey removed. The survey doesn't remove a stage that already has marks, photos or an approval.

How to add another property

Open “Profile” → “My properties” and tap “Add”. When an owner has two or more properties, and always for designers and contractors, a bar of property icons appears on the home screen: an icon opens a property, and the “+” sign (“New property”) adds another. Switching between properties doesn't erase anything: each one stays on the phone. A new property requires logging in and a connection. How many of your own properties you can run depends on your plan: plans and their limits.

How to change the name and address

On the home screen, press and hold the property icon in the bar → “Name and address”.

What to do if

  • You can't create a new property. You need to be logged in and connected. More: how to log in.
  • You can't create a property, and the app mentions a limit. Your plan limits how many of your own properties you can have. You can free up a slot by moving a finished property to the archive: how the archive works.
  • You chose the wrong role. “Profile” → the “Settings” gear → “Role in the app”. The role affects the properties you create yourself; on properties you were invited to, the role from the invitation stays.
  • You can't change the survey. The owner and the designer change it. If you're a contractor or foreman, ask them.
  • You confirmed the survey by mistake. While the countdown bar is at the bottom, tap “Undo”. After that, what the survey removed can't be brought back; if you still need a stage, add your own: “Stages” → “Edit” → “+ Add stage”.
